The essence of the Word

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

I like the word tsiytsiyt, in hebrew , deriving from (tsiyts) is the "blossom" of a tree, which in time will become a fruit.

You can see how a change in language does not capture the essence of the Word. (Changing to Greek it is recorded as a "fringe").

Wherein Hebrew it means more than just the Fringe: The function of the tsiytsiyt is to be a reminder to the wearer to produce fruit, fruit being the observance of the commands, as stated in verse 39, "remember the commandments," the teachings of God, which according to Psalm 1:2,3, is like producing fruit.

Therefore, the word tsiytsiyt carries with it a cultural perspective which connects the blossoms of a tree with the performance of a commandment.

The Hebrew word tsiytsiyt is now translated into their new language. In the case of the Greek language, it is translated into κρασπεδον (kraspedon), meaning "a decorative fringe or thread." No longer is the tsiytsiyt attached to the idea of a "blossom," but instead simply as a "fringe." This same shift in perception occurred each time a new language was adopted, whether it was Spanish, German or English.

This is a really wonderful article about the impact of translations and languages, and enwrapped in what we call time. Do you remember what is written about our Father saying “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you (Jer 1:5). Another passage states, “you did not choose me, but I chose you,” (John 15:16). He is the potter and we are the clay. Anyway, take the time to read the article and we can get a cup of coffee and talk. Think about the times that we nearly lost our lives, when He may have whispered in our ears to do something, or ask us a question. He is always with us and will never leave u…

Nice thoughts. For some reason, I see a transfer being made to the commandments written on our hearts in Jeremiah. I used to wear Tzittzits, but my goats like to eat them; I used to go through them quite rapidly, so I started wearing them on the inside on a tallit. The tallit was not an option either due to the sweat. In Yeshua, the attention is placed on walking with Yeshua, producing fruit as we go, that is keeping our Father’s directives and helping our fellow man. This article got me thinking about my past just a little, Romans 5:2-5 applies.
